Philip is a welcoming, friendly, progressive community in western South Dakota with a population of 779. It is centrally located between Rapid City and Pierre on US Highway 14 and SD Highway 73. Fun Fact Philip is named after James "Scotty" Philip who is known for saving the buffalo. Even the school's mascot is nicknamed Philip Scotties.
